What, Me Worry?

What, me work?

So you want to be like Europe?

The Democrats certainly believe that’s an area to emulate and, because of this, you must realize they will do their best to ensure its policies and beliefs become those of this country.

Except for one little teeny-weeny problem: Europe doesn’t work. Literally and figuratively. A little wordplay there.

Let’s take Germany for example. I would suspect that Germany rather typifies societal and governmental norms in the European Union. And Germany is beginning to suffer from the exact things that Democrats believe we need in the United States.

I would highly suggest you read this complete article from der Spiegel, Germany’s premiere publication now online. As you might suspect much of the German media leans a tad to the left yet, despite that, this kind of article was published in their “mainstream media.”

The situation is that critical. Here are excerpts. To wit:

Faced with poor job prospects, high taxes and an intrusive bureaucracy, more and more Germans are choosing to emigrate. Most of those who leave, though, are highly qualified — which could mean devastating economic consequences.

The consequences for the United States, if we are listening, are absolutely enormous.

They are tired of living in country where landing a job is like playing the lottery, a country where not even half of citizens live from gainful employment and a country in which even academics in their mid-40s are already considered problem cases when it comes to job placement. In other words, they are fed up with living in a country where all opportunities already seem to be taken: opportunities to succeed in one’s career, to own property and to achieve prosperity.

Stop right there. What might be the largest difference between Europe and the United States? Would that be the actual ownership of property? Home ownership? An actual investment in not only one’s job, one’s culture on all levels to include religion but an investment in what some call hard or physical assets? When one owns something, doesn’t that person tend to take better care of that in which they have a greater investment — again, on all levels?

I would submit they do. Further:

Nowadays doctors are moving to Norway, engineers to the United States and agricultural experts to New Zealand. Germany is becoming a net exporter of people.

Who will pay for all services, when no one works in order to pay for demanded entitlements?

The country’s pension system is losing contributors just as vast numbers of baby-boomers are gradually entering retirement. The demographic crisis is getting worse, especially when one considers that deaths outnumbered births by 144,000 in 2005, and that this gap is continuing to widen.

In the United States, self-considered “elite” and “progressive” cities such as San Francisco and Seattle have the fewest number of children in the nation, per capita.

When you have a goal, when you work for that goal and when you achieve that goal and can keep it and hold it, your investment in that goal is total and complete. You are invested in your country, your local state or entity and, equally important, your community. Those who have achieved nothing not obtained on the coattails of others lack this appreciation for work and investment. And I submit that there you have Europe. People primarily live in apartments. They are subsidized and supported to a great degree by their government(s).

Read this again: “. . .a country where not even half of citizens live from gainful employment.” Did you process that? More than half of Germany’s citizens are “on the dole.” And of that massive number, are they all paraplegics? Blind? Not even remotely.

To a degree Europeans are correct: the United States is lagging behind them. We have not yet experienced, societally and culturally the negative aspects of their collective Western culture. And they have made and are making huge mistakes — finally to the point where there are public admissions of societal and cultural bankruptcy. To have something like this article actually written, approved by editorial staff and then printed for all in Europe to read bespeaks volumes.

The Europeans took a path and finally, bit by bit, they are becoming cognizant of their series of mistakes. With government. With entitlements. With immigration. With over-regulation. With losing sight of long term goals. With even having goals. When people cannot benefit from the fruits of their labors, what motivation is there to even wish to work? That is, further, in my estimation, a killing of the very human soul.

But it is not just the highly qualified who are finding the courage to try their luck in another country. More and more average citizens — many of them in financial straits at home — are finding the courage to make a fresh start. They iron laundry in hotels in Austria’s Southern Tyrol resort region, wait tables in restaurants in Italy and cook dumplings in Austria’s Stubai Valley. Nothing is beneath them, and anything is better than collecting unemployment in Germany.

The virtual killing of the human soul: “. . .anything is better than collecting unemployment in Germany.”

We need to look at this so-called “European Model” and learn from its mistakes.

Because if we do not, we are destined to repeat their mistakes on our domestic soil. And we are well on our way to duplicating their erroneous path. A path, they are finally acknowledging, that is literally and figuratively unworkable — and wrong.

CHANCE: Europe has many white people and non-whites but if this system is not working on the white continent it will not work in America either. Many racial groups live in Europe and the socialist system will not work there. America has many racial groups and it will not work here either. White European countries are not progressing under a socialist system and they are predominantly white. Countries that have racial group that are different from each other always usually will have serious problems and will break up due to ethnic violence.

Tito of Yugoslavia knew this and used the military to keep the peace but eventually Yugoslavia in the 1990s broke out with civil war. Europe will go down that same road and so will America.

Japan is predominantly Japanese so they don’t have to worry about this. Socialism should only be practiced by souls that are highly spiritually advanced like Dalai Lama not by the average person or country.

  2. LMC: Glad I could help. As it turns out with regard to Socialism, history has shown that it tends to benefit one class only: the Ruling Caste. Just ask those nation states who benefited under the USSR, and who had the best dachas — much less any dachas at all.

Chance: correct. Crossing the Atlantic will not make a concept work any differently unless you are additionally throwing in the variable of the Islamic religion. You write of Japan — as you well know, Japan and many of the Asian cultures are some of the MOST ethnocentrically-biased races on the planet.

On the other hand, kinda tends to make things easier as well. Just ask any living feudal Japanese. Just kidding.

  3. Japan is *not* replacing its population and is looking to heavily automate the ‘elder care’ system: yes, they want robots. Robots to care for their elderly population that is growing at a rate that makes our growth in that area seem glacial in comparison.

Some years back an article on France addressed this same problem and the solution of their well trained scientists and engineers was the same: move to America.

Perhaps the Germans will follow the way the Swedes went to the US or some of the previous Germanic immigrants. An influx of Germans into Washington, Minnesota and Missouri would be most interesting… especially on the brewing side of things.

This has been the ‘Dirty Little Secret’ of Continental Europe: the smart folks have been leaving in a steady trickle for two decades. Which is part of the reason they have to get ‘foreign’ workers from North Africa, Turkey and the Middle East. Now if only we could convince them to recruit in Latin America, instead… that would be a two-fer!

  4. AJ: you are 100% correct. Policies such as these result in a proverbial “brain drain” of those persons possessing skills and knowledge (as Drucker indicated, most skilled persons are “knowledge workers” anyway) and, as such, expect to be paid commensurately and, moreover, EXPECT to PROFIT from their skills and not have these profits DRAINED from them by some excessively repressive taxation system.

Yes — perhaps they would care to take some US agricultural, restaurant, motel and labor workers — heck, we’d be happy to make permanent loans.

  5. Oh no, BZ. I miss the dog with the bag over it’s head! LOL!

Great post! You point out the fallacies of what happens when liberals take over quite well. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could somehow re-educate the brainwashed people in this country by telling them the truth. *sigh* The MSM and the college professors, at least way too many of them, leave me feeling like we’re beating our heads against a brick wall. Oh, and let’s not forget the liberal judges.

  6. We were on the tipping point up here to full socialism before the last election. The country is now standing on the fence, and we have a long way to go to get to the right side, but we’ve fought hard for 30 years, and have a long way to go. Our medical system, pension plan, etc. is ready to collapse, and were hoping it does. Not only so it can be rebuilt totally and correctly, with something similar to yours, but as an example of how socialism will destroy a system or country. Fight hard dude…. you guys have probably the last correct systems on earth.

  7. The problem with the Lords and Ladies of the Democrat party is they forget they are sent to D.C. to”work” for us. They have gotten the idea over the years its a ticket ot pillage.

  8. The Republicans were sent to Washington D.C. to work for us too and turned out to be one of the worst aministrations in history which is why the Lords and ladies of the Democrat party are back in power in washington.

I agree bloviating Zep that when a country is made up of basically one racial group it makes things more easier. But America is not like that I feel also that it is more fun living in multi racial society this why these mixed countries get more immigrants, and why people living and born in these types of countries seldom leave. Ask all of the Japenese immigrants who keep coming to live in America.
