WSJ Poll: Should the Senate pass the $849 billion health care reform package?

That’s the question posed by the Wall Street Journal:

Should the Senate pass the $849 billion health care reform package?
Click on the link and you’ll find that, at the time of this blogpost’s creation, it was 6.2% in favor of passage (with 2,683 votes) and 93.8% against passage, with 40,275 votes.
Isn’t it odd that this and other polls clearly indicate the bulk of Americans do not wish ObamaKare — and yet, with and by any means necessary lawful or unlawful it is clear that Reid, Pelosi and Obama are going to ram this bill by fiat down the throats of all Americans and strongarm the cash from your wallets and purses.
That’s like stuffing an emetic down your throat and then forcing you to re-consume the results.
THIS JUST IN:

In the Rasmussen poll, Mr Obama’s numbers have plummeted from a +30 on January 22nd of this year, flattened to 0 on June 28th, began going negative on June 30th (-2) and were the worst (-19) on December 13th.
Joe Lieberman just may be the solitary fly in the Demorat ointment.  If so, don’t be surprised if Reid decides to push the Nuke 50 button.

  1. Our betters have given us their orders, and it is now our sworn duty to obey them…

    …wait a minute…

Aren’t they the public servants with a sworn duty to represent OUR interests?

  2. I really thought they’d never pass this stinker; now I have my doubts.
Will anybody ever wake up to the really horrid things in the bill? Or the fact that they’re screwing ALL of us and our insurance just to mollify those who don’t have it?
Why not just fix THAT sector of the country?

  3. FJ: nice thought but, in truth, as far as THEY’re concerned YOU have to dance to THEIR tune, not the other way around. You are THEIR servant.

Z: for fear of being branded Tinfoilist, I still believe that for this current administration it’s about completely decimating the nation and then rebuilding in their visage and the Constitution and thoughts of the constituents be damned.

  4. I listened to Bob Beckel on FOX, reiterate forcefully again last night, that when all is said and done, Joe Lieberman will join the Democrats.

He threw in the threat about Lieberman’s chairmanship, but I think Lieberman will tell them what to do with the chair. If he does not, he will lose all credibility.

Have you heard that Olympia Snowe is staying with the Repubs? That’s what I’m hearing. What a shock that will be if she does.

Great polling info. I’ll run and vote in the WSJ poll.

    I don’t see snow!

  5. No, Joe is on the friekin’ payroll of Aetna insurance. 60% of his state want real health care reform and Joe is only interested in lining his pockets by lobbyists.

    Insurance companies own Joe.

You really think he gives a shit about you or me or any form of ideology? Grow up people. They want to give to the corporations which will take from you and yours!

These politicians don’t see themselves as our public servants but as our RULERS. They have no clue as to the spirit of the principles upon which our republic was founded!

  7. The CBO has not weighed in on this bill. Your figure is wrong.

Why should ours be the only civilized country in the world be one where you can lose your house if you get sick. Or die because you have no insurance. Why should CEO’s make obscene profits off your health, Man you guys just love to shoot yourselves in the foot.

    Stop being Fox lemmings.

  8. Bd: I wish you could see the forest for the trees. You do NOT need to tear down the ENTIRE healthcare system in the US. There is NO such thing as ANY kind of “free” lunch when it comes to your government. If you are a so-called “middle class” taxpayer the government will shake your ass upside down for all the change and THEN ration your healthcare. And stop, Bd, being an Obama sycophant and try doing the “logical extension” on just WHERE this bill will be going.

I do NOT mind healthcare reform; but you do NOT, repeat, NOT saddle the American taxpayer with billions or, perhaps even more appropriate, TRILLIONS of dollars in debt during a recession which is bordering on, literally, the cusp of runaway INFLAtion!

Malcontent: thank you for the kind words, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment! Please return and weigh in frequently.

  9. What is fascinating is that the cost of medical care paid for by insurance has outstripped the cost of inflation. I’ve always enjoyed the 1970 census as it was the last to look at the percent of Americans without indoor plumbing, without landline telephones, without washers and dryers, without television and without the plethora of things we now have: PCs, video recorders, cellphones, microwave ovens… and yet health care was a small fraction of the budget then for a household, 7-8% if memory holds. Go back to the 1920’s and the healthcare percentage was in the 3% range per household. Now we push 16% and no one asks: what has changed between then and now?

Well, new treatments, of course! Anti-biotics were unknown in the 20’s and prevalent in the 60’s and now we take them for granted save when they don’t work. But beyond that we can now treat all sorts of things like cancer, heart disease, strokes, and on and on.

We pay more because we can treat more, of course. Still that isn’t the entire ball of wax, is it?

Drug companies were small back in the 20’s, with Bayer a well known name then and now. Yet the margin of profit, again if memory serves and I may have it wrong, has stayed steady. We now have more well known drug companies, and entire types of drugs, such as human recombinant drugs, that were not available until the 1990’s. To treat those maladies has taken more than just diet and exercise, and medications go hand-in-hand with therapies. Yet if you kill the incentive for discovery by limiting profit, you will not get new drugs in the pipeline as they are damned expensive to research, test, get through regulatory systems and then marketed.

Then there is the overhead cost of ‘insurance’. Yet this isn’t real ‘insurance’ is it? You are not betting that you will get sick and that the company is betting that you won’t. If you expect a certain level of services, you are not making an ‘insurance’ bet but wanting a service standard met. But insurance is piss-poor for that. Purely awful. Do you go to an insurance company for managing the length of your life under life insurance? Then why do that for medicine? If you want a system to manage care, make it affordable and yet still allow people to say ‘NO’ to getting it and take their chances. And then who set up government to be our dictator in our lives? Do you actually trust the IRS to get ANYTHING right, when their own folks can’t answer simple questions on the tax code? We rigged the system with subsidies, that also increases costs, and yet any ‘government plan’ for ANYTHING has proven to be full of bureaucracy, way over budget and unable to deliver on all the promises put to the tasks it gets.

You can’t get it all in health care. Even if rising costs due to treatments and drugs is the main factor, and I dispute that, you now get to make your choices on your health. Why would I trust any government agency to do better? You literally want MY life put on a risk that I do not agree to. And after what I have been through, I know that is a losing proposition.
