Fast-food workers strike, citing low wages: ‘It’s not enough’

NYC McDonalds FF StrikeHello?  It’s called an “entry level wage” and it’s not meant as a life-long career.

From MSNBC:

By Barbara Raab, Senior Producer, NBC News

They work for some of the biggest businesses in the United States, yet they are among the country’s lowest-paid workers.

On Thursday, fast-food workers staged walkouts at McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell and other restaurants in New York City to call attention to their plight. Organizers scheduled the job actions to commemorate the day Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated 45 years ago in Memphis, where he was supporting a strike by sanitation workers.

“It’s not enough,” Elba Godoy, a crew member at a McDonald’s just a few blocks from Times Square, said of her $7.25-per-hour minimum wage, which helps support her extended family of seven. “They don’t like [that we’re out here], but we have to do it. We cannot survive on $7.25.”

Clue: you don’t make more than minimum wage at McDonalds and elsewhere because you don’t deserve it.  Strike all you want.  Then get a job that requires some ambition and aspiration.

  1. Raising their wages will result in raising the prices of the food served at these places. Then, what? Customers will vanish, and the businesses will go under. A lot of people making low wages eat at those places.

BTW, the raised fist in the photo is one of the old hand signals for Communism. Just sayin’ — because the point of the strike seems to be redistribution of wealth.

  2. Low information voters = low paid workers. 100% true.
Negroes average 85 IQ= see directly above. 100% true.
So, what am I going to do about it??? Absolutely nothing.
Advice: Stay the Hell out of Texas.

  3. Oh, the horror! Try bucking hay bales for 2 cents a bale. Work your way through college on the GI Bill and smashing bags for the airlines. Make yourself more valuable. The giverment ain’t gona take care of you and Mickey D don’t care.

    +1 MrC.

    • Because, after all, we know how DIFFICULT it is to press the CHEESEBURGER icon on the cash register. Criminy, you don’t even have to know how to count out CHANGE any more.

And I’ll wager NONE of those lops could count out change.
