GOWP privilege gone wrong

[GOWP = Guilty Overeducated White Person]

Let’s begin with the video documentation. This is GOWP Caren Turner — not “miss,” but commissioner (parenthesis: you witless, mindless drone) —

Wait, wait wait; first this video:

Back to Caren Turner, with some requisite background from NJ.com:

Video shows Port Authority commissioner telling cops: ‘You may shut the f— up!’

by Ted Sherman

Flashing her commissioner’s gold badge and boasting of her influence during a routine traffic stop involving her daughter, Caren Z. Turner demanded to know why police had pulled the car over and why it was being impounded.

Then she launched into a tirade at the two officers.

All of it was captured on camera.

Uh-oh. Just remember that, these days, video can work both ways.

The video and a police incident report, both made public after requests by NJ Advance Media and other news organizations, showed Turner apparently seeking to leverage her influence, talking about who she knew, and complaining that the police had “ruined” a holiday weekend with the stop of her daughter and three friends on rural Route 9W in Bergen County.

Turner, 60, a Democratic lobbyist who served as the ethics chair of the powerful bi-state agency, could not be reached for comment Tuesday and the phone number of her Washington public affairs office has been disconnected. No one came to her front door when a reporter knocked on Tuesday.

Tenafly Police Chief Robert Chamberlain said he would let the video speak for itself.

The Port Authority, asked for comment, also referred back to the video.

So: cue the video.

And here’s what happened afterwards, again from NJ.com:

Port Authority cites ‘profoundly disturbing’ conduct in resignation of commissioner

by Ted Sherman

Caren Z. Turner, a Democratic lobbyist from Tenafly, has resigned as a commissioner from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, after an investigation was opened into what agency officials would only describe as “profoundly disturbing conduct.”

Officials would not disclose the circumstances, but two sources with knowledge of the investigation said it involved her intervention in a recent traffic stop in connection with her daughter. Both said Turner apparently flashed her Port Authority badge in an effort to intercede with police officers on the scene.

Sadly, the officers involved did not cower under her loomingly-masterful megapowers where, clearly, others had on prior occasions involving the exercising of her ubiquitous supremacy.

In a statement on Monday morning, the agency said: “The Port Authority has zero tolerance for ethics violations.  This is the basis of the tough, systematic integrity reforms the Port Authority has implemented over the past year.  Immediately upon learning of allegations that Commissioner Turner violated the Board’s newly-enacted Code of Ethics, an Inspector General investigation was begun.  The investigation revealed conduct that was profoundly disturbing. After Commissioner Turner became aware of the investigation, she resigned.”

Even before the announcement, Turner’s name and photo had already been removed from the Port Authority website.

Couldn’t have occurred to a nicer person, unfortunately.

This is what one would customarily term a Standard Leftist Abject Elite GOWP Fail. The only differences between this and thousands of others a day? It was caught on camera and — shock of shocks — there were actual consequences.

  1. Great story. Loved seeing how it unfolded earlier in the week. And especially appreciate your commentary on the same. Goes to show how the camera can work BOTH ways. No doubt some of us (especially police officers, honest lawyers, sons, moms, dads, brothers, sisters, plebian students, medical workers, EMTs etc.) have put up with this type of behavior many times before. It is TRULY GRATIFYING that this GOWP Elitist paid the price for being nothing short of a Bitch on wheels. I’d suggest more than half of the USA population feels a sense of gratification. Others may feel sorry for her. I will also bask in her liberal tears hahahaa.

    • Bwa-ha-haaaa. The true application of schadenfreude.

My heart bleeds for her. Uh, no.

Instead, in the inimitable words of Chief Dan George: “my heart soars like an eagle.”

  2. This was hilarious especially knowing the ultimate outcome. Trying to throw her weight around and failing spectacularly. Then the big guns: PhD students at MIT and Yale!!! Ooooh, bet that had them shaking in their shoes….with laughter. I wonder what her reaction was when she found out her daughter had been a passenger in a car with 2 year lapsed registration and uninsured. Wonder if the driver was one of the PhD students…hmmm.

      • Thinking about this a bit more, I watched the beginning of the 1 hour plus complete video wherein the driver tells the officer the car is his mother’s car. At least sounds like what he says. Now if true, what kind of responsible parent lets his/her child drive around with 2 year old expired registration sans insurance? Did momma give said car to child to use in college with the proviso he would take care of the piddling details like renewal and insurance?
And after countless miles and many states traversed it is only because these officers thought it important to check out the partially obscured license plate that this car was finally taken off the road. Well done, Officers!
