You are right it is a sad state of affairs when people are so ignorant about the history of their country. Unfortunately it is not just ignorance of history, ,ignorance of geography is equally bad, if you recall Jay Leno’s clips.
I can remember a Canadian comic got Huckerbee (dad, not his idiot daughter) to congratulate Canada on their national igloo day! Google Rick Mercer National Igloo and you will see it.
