Took A Hit

Well, it would appear I took one for the proverbial home team today, despite the fact that I felt railroaded into it. No matter what, it’s a no-win situation on every side imagineable.

I just went, in my job, from okay to worst, on the worst shift and worst place possible. I’ll be working a graveyard shift now, shortly. However, by doing this, I purposely enabled another much younger Sergeant to keep his current position and not be forcibly removed, by my seniority, from a position he loves. He has a wife and kids.

I simply got worn down. And I saved him despite that. He has many years to go in his future. I’m just old.

I feel nothing right now. I am just beyond spent, this year. I have nothing more to say or write for anyone.

  1. You have done something wonderful for a fellow human being and it will reward more than you could ever imagine.

    Just wait and see.

You didn’t pray about it which is useless I might say, you did it.

You’re going to be just fine, just wait and see.

  2. BZ,
So you purposely allowed someone else to work a shift that allows him to spend more time with his family. And there’s something bad here?

You did something nice for someone else. Those of us who worked shift work know how tough that is on your family. I worked a lot of holidays, nights, mornings, evenings, etc.

It’s nice that you let a younger family guy have his time. That’s good.

  3. BZ, you did the right and noble thing…

I know it’s been a while since you worked nights or Patrol so, here’s a brief reminder…

It’s called a *hidey hole*, it’s very secure, one way in, one way out and your *SIX* is fully protected…

    Naps are a wonderful thing!!

  4. BZ, got this in my inbox today. Some guy wrote this. Thought it might cheer you up:

    YES, I’M A BAD AMERICAN

I Am the Liberal-Progressives Worst Nightmare.
    I am an American.
I am a Master Mason and believe in God.

I ride Harley Davidson Motorcycles and believe in American products.
I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some Liberal governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican!
I’m in touch with my feelings and I like it that way!

I think owning a gun doesn’t make you a killer, it makes you a smart American.

I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized, and does not entitle you to anything. Get over it!

I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac, do it in English.
I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when and where he or she wants to.
My heroes are John Wayne, Babe Ruth, Roy Rogers, and Willie G. Davidson who makes the awesome Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

I don’t hate the rich. I don’t pity the poor.
I know wrestling is fake and I don’t waste my time watching or arguing about it.

I’ve never owned a slave, or was a slave, I haven’t burned any witches or been persecuted by the Turks and neither have you!
    So, move on already.
I believe if you don’t like the way things are here, go back to where you came from and change your own country!
This is AMERICA .We like it the way it is!
If you were born here and don’t like it you are free to move to any Socialist country that will have you.

I want to know which church it is exactly where the Reverend Jesse Jackson preaches, where he gets his money, and why he is always part of the problem and not the solution.
Can I get an AMEN on that one?

I also think the cops have the right to pull you over if you’re breaking the law, regardless of what color you are.
And, no, I don’t mind having my face shown on my drivers license.
I think it’s good…. And I’m proud that ‘God’ is written on my money.

I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don’t want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years.
I dislike those people standing in the intersections trying to sell me stuff..
Get a Job and do your part!

I believe that it doesn’t take a village to raise a child, it takes two parents.
I believe ‘illegal’ is illegal no matter what the lawyers think.

I believe the American flag should be the only one flown in the UNITED STATES!

If this makes me a BAD American, then yes, I’m a BAD American.

  5. BZ,
Don’t know the whole story here, but it sounds to me like you did a noble thing. I believe most people would have acted differently which makes you a pretty special fellow, IMHO.

  6. BZ,

The one thing you don’t want to do is to start feeling sorry for yourself, it will destroy you. The World isn’t turning against you, you’re allowing the World to turn against you, make it stop.

I know you’re upset about your father passing, my father passed away not long ago also. You’ve got to get over it, that’s what dads do, they die, and they’ve been doing it for thousands of years.

It’s time to stand up and take this on face first and take control of your situation. If you don’t like the situation you’re in, change it. If you take all the time and energy you’ve put into this job and put it into yourself you’ll start seeing some major changes happening, all for the good I might add.

Now stop with all this I’m beat bullshit, you’re not beat until they put you in the ground.

There are opportunities everywhere to make a living and pay your bills. You just need to open your eyes to see them.

Your life is up to you not the people you work for.

And for God sakes, stop with the I’m old bullshit.

Now is the time to see what you’re made of.

  7. That is no hit, Mr. Z.

The Graves they are horrific but you did not whistle sweetly going in but knew what it meant.

The way out is forward and through.

Your better nature will not lead you astray and it will guide you out through these times.

  8. Ranando,

    That was a little harsh!
“I know you’re upset about your father passing…You’ve got to get over it…”

I am a nurse and I deal with death almost every day. I deal with the families that loose their loved ones. I advise them to grieve in a healthy manner and let them know that everyone grieves differently and to be patient with each other during the grieving process, knowing that some take longer than others.

It is not something you get over. My mother’s mother died 27 years ago and my mother still misses her and would give anything to see her one more time.

It hasn’t even been 6 months for BZ.

  9. Anon,

I in no way meant to be harsh or offend you my friend BZ.

If I did so I truly appologize.

No one misses their father more than I do.

Death effects different people in different ways, I should have chosen my words differently.

  10. Turns out I saved his job and I saved his rank. He was also going to get demoted if he left the division, I found out today. The receiving division could have demoted him by his contract; my tiered contract makes me undemoteable this year.

  11. Thank you everyone for your very kind comments. This week has been an emotional roller coaster. At this point I still have a job and I’m keeping my rank, this budget year. But with the 400 on-call layoffs and the 209 full-time deputy layoffs, I thought it was the right thing to do to let this young kid with a wife and his own kids keep his shift, his stripes and his job. I’ve pretty much had my career; he’s just trying to start his.

  12. BZ…you sure have gone through it lately.
You did the right thing here…with every blog and action you show your integrity and kindness.

    xxx

  13. BZ, somehow when we do something magnificent and noble for someone else and it is a true sacrifice to do so, usually something very good comes of it. I hope that will happen for you.

  14. BZ,
However, by doing this, I purposely enabled another much younger Sergeant to keep his current position and not be forcibly removed, by my seniority, from a position he loves. He has a wife and kids.

You have done a good deed! I know that the Lord will reward you for it.

  15. Taking a hit at random is bad luck.

Stepping into the line of fire is a strategy.

One you can do little about.

The other makes what happens part of your plan.

Rather the latter than the former.
