Victor Wooten: bassist extraordinaire

A troop of mine is a young man who originally played bass and now owns numerous guitars, several of which he occasionally brings to work — such as his Gibson, a banjo and, yesterday, a dobro.  He and I began talking about bass players.  His favorite?

Victor Wooten:

Have a great Sunday.

  1. I swear if you closed your eyes for certain passages of this music, you’d wonder what instrument it is. This guy plays the bass like a viola…smooth, then attacks it …
What an amazing player! I’d never heard of him.

    Thanks, BZ

  2. He’s the bassist for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (fusion/jazz). He and his brother have this nasty habit of creating their own instruments – his brother, for example, plays a “drum” on a very guitar-looking synthesizer.

Awesome music, great bass player, and also MY favorite bassist.

Thanks for posting the vid. Youtube Victor and be prepared to lose many hours glued to your screen.

    • Always enjoyed Bela Fleck. He TOO can make some amazing soundscapes on, of all things, a banjo.

Thanks for reminding me of Bela, Cary!
