Blue Shield of California seeks rate hikes up to 20%

Fornicalia Sinking Into the OceanProving, once again, that the Golden State is now the Brown State —

From the LosAngelesTimes.com:

Health insurer Blue Shield of California wants to raise rates as much as 20% for some individual policyholders, prompting calls for the nonprofit to use some of its record-high reserve of $3.9 billion to hold down premiums.

In filings with state regulators, Blue Shield is seeking an average rate increase of 12% for more than 300,000 customers, effective in March, with a maximum increase of 20%.

Some consumer advocates and healthcare economists say Blue Shield shouldn’t be raising rates that high when it has stockpiled so much cash. The company’s surplus is nearly three times as much as the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Assn. requires its member insurers to hold to cover future claims.

At first blush, it would appear that these tough times are not quite so tough for Blue Shield.

But for those living in Fornicalia, this comes as no shock.  Not only are the bulk of its denizens illegal, Leftist and parasitic by nature, they are also insane, having voted this past November to tax themselves via Proposition 30, in order to provide more state Free Cheese.

If I wasn’t locked into property and job, I would so leave Fornicalia behind.

I’m trapped behind enemy lines in occupied territory.

  1. I carried my Blue Cross/Blue Shield into retirement.
    Costly but great coverage.

I expect you will do the same when you retire.

    • I don’t have that specific carrier, but everything — and I mean everything in terms of health care — is about to be turned upside down.

    • With the new coming federal taxes, state taxes, local taxes, coming OBAKA regulations (oh just wait for those), and taxing your healthcare & benefits as income — my my my my my.

  2. Blue Cross at any price is very attractive in some areas because Blue Cross is the company that has the biggest network so that insureds can always find an in-network provider. Is that true in California?

  3. 20% wouldn’t be so bad for me as my monthly premium for private coverage with high deductible and no pharmacy coverage = $250/month.

But what about people like Mr. AOW, who, until recently, had an identical high-risk private policy with a premium of $700/month?

  4. That coverage, BCBS, is what keeps us afloat right now. My wife has that coverage on her job, I have my coverage AND hers so, we come out OK, for now anyway..

And without the dental coverage you guys would soon be calling me GUMS.. 🙁

  5. And I’m on the far right of that picture, I’m the guy digging a hole under the fence!

Hey BZ, we need to keep pointing out the idiocy but I’m voting inline with the Natives from now on. Any tax increases, I’m all for it, Banning unfiltered air YES, ban guns, YES, ban soda YES, ban cigs YES… I will start a black market business for air/guns/soda and smokes. I want the entire state to go into chaos. Show and tell is the only way these assholes will catch a clue.

    • The regulation tidal wave, she is about to break on the federal level.

Bad enough in Fornicalia; about to be applicable across the nation.
