I attended a Sunday showing of the new David Ayer film, “END OF WATCH.”
At its conclusion, I couldn’t help but make some linkages and indulge in a tad bit of introspection.
First, “End of Watch” is not “Training Day.”
I would recommend EOW to everyone looking for a remarkably accurate portrayal of police work in a big city rife with gangs, violence, mixed races and endless challenges for law enforcement. It does an excellent job of displaying the best and the worst of humanity. It does an excellent job of illustrating how the current young mixed generation of cops deal with the concepts of evil, sacrifice, history, courage, violence, reality, insanity, family, support, camaraderie, cliques, teams, and a greater awareness and sense of self. And, moreover, how they are the video, social media, explicit, unabashed, put-everything-out-there generation — with little concern for the concomitant consequences.
That said, I wanted to investigate the making of the film. America Ferrera has an interesting insight in this article. As in: the neighborhoods were true and correct. As were a bulk of the “actors” in the “background.” I won’t event speculate as to the amounts of cash that had to flow for the movie company to work unimpeded in L.A.
And that made me think further:
Perhaps there is an actual coming “end of watch” for our nation as well. Further: the reasons are so clearly illustrated in this film.
There are not only individual persons but gangs and neighborhoods and communities and areas and subdivisions and cities and states reliant but upon the continual flow of local, state and federal cash. Welfare cash. Free cash. Cash undeserved but still proffered.
As in:
But: how did we get there? And what will we do now? And how can we rid ourselves of this denigrating and corrupting plague?
And how did these two disparate persons/races manage to not only survive but — until the de nou mas — thrive?
How did we get here?
How did we get our cops to battle death edicts called in from foreign countries?
How did we allow MS13 “Big Evil” to exist in our suburbs in the first place?
Why do we or should we pit our civilian cops against militaristic cults, groups, gangs, unions, units or brigades from foreign military groups?
In one car: two Glock 17 pistols, six magazines, and one shotgun with six shells?
This, ladies and gentlemen, is a proverbial setup for failure.
Open borders. Versus closed borders.
Right vs wrong.
How did we get here?
And a final question:
Would your dead grandparents recognize this current country?

I don’t find the “open borders” to be that much of a threat, as most of those coming across come here to work. These workers don’t ‘steal’ anything from anyone: they earn their jobs by being good at them. Yes, many criminals do come across, and many who loaf on the public safety net.
But, truth be told, we have many more native-born people who are criminals and loaf on the public safety net. If we were really serious about these problems, we would deport these folks before we got to the illegal aliens.
I would side more with the movement to close the borders if it was more completely divorced with the Pat Buchanan wing which hates Hispanics due to cultural chauvanism and is anti-worker….. and we had closed borders which kept criminals and loafers out, while letting people who want to work in.
The open border isn’t a threat — to the person(s) wanting to come in. Open borders are, however, a threat to the sovereignty of any nation. Examine Europe. Statistically, yes, there are more sovereigns committing crimes. That’s a straw argument.
Which brings me to this: I wonder where you live. In Fornicalia, I’m faced with illegals every day. I see them on the streets, on my calls, in my jails, with ICE. Our prisons are filling with illegals — not illegal French, not illegal Canadians, not illegal Ethiopians, not illegal Chinese. Illegal MEXICANS because Mexico is on our southern border. In the Sacramento Valley those Mexicans who speak English are becoming the minority, not the majority. There is no percentage in learning the language when my state does its level best to ensure you DON’T speak English.
Yes, the US needs to do a better and faster job of vetting those who wish to immigrate legally.
But open borders? I’m sorry, I can’t go there.

A nation that has no strong borders is NOT a sovereign nation.
Having been on ‘ride-alongs’ with both LAPD and LASO in those areas in the late 90’s it’s sad to see it’s ONLY gotten worse… And you’re right, we’re close to EOT!
Many of the gangbangers you see in the movie – ? They are real. They party call? That was filmed at a bangers house with those all around. The film crew had “issues” shooting that scene.
What you see there is real. And I’ll wager that’s why Charlie Beck had little problem letting that little cat out of the bag.

Abrupt cut-off. Check points set up and control all entries and exits. ALL OF THEM!!
Have our police forces, Fed Agents,and National Guard ordered up and standing ready.
Of course there will be a huge “burn it down riot” of epic proportions.
The outcome will be the solution and will be a showcase for others in Detroit, Cleveland, Atlanta, Birmingham, etc.
President Obama will be gone, voted out of office.
Only the Congressional Black Caucus, Black Mayors of US Cities, NAACP, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton,,, will be outraged.

Now for the mexican illegals:
Rid Santa Ana, CA. and fil all the jails with illegals.
Have all of our Immigration LEO’s start busing the illegal criminals to San Ysidro, CA and deport them with armed escort.
WE have plenty of buses. All mayors of cities who want this will be assigned a reservation number and this bus battalion will work North thru the cities of CA.
Then Arizona.
I believe that the Illegals in Texas and other states will start having a mass migration South of illegals fleeing to the Southern Border.

MrC, I honestly do believe that Mr Obama is in for a shock come November. That said, because of the PC-ness of the issue, I doubt Romney will grasp the point run. I do hope, however, that he allows USBP and ICE to simply do their jobs. Uncuff them. Let them do the jobs that are on the books already.
