Who could have known, Denver’s Corky Gonzales, late 60’s, trying to get some Anglo pussy, would create La Raza? Once he found out he could both get laid, and get paid off by “The Man”, it was off and running.
How do I know? I was there at the time.
So you were there during the creation of La Raza — “The Race” — which advocates “Reconquista,” the reclamation of the US to Mexico.

Was a student at Metropolitan State College, as was Corky. He was a leader of a group that started tutoring Chicano students. The woman I married got a 6″ knife slash wound on her thigh from one of the little bastards. Another contemporary at Metro was Lauren Watson, who parleyed a Black Panther membership into several well paying taxpayer funded gigs.
Never found Corky to be the smartest guy, but he had guts and a big motor. The real smart ones stayed in the background and manipulated him. I think La Raza was never planned. Rather, it grew from an opportunity.
Denver was a terribly corrupt city. 10% of Denver P.D. (71 officers) went to prison in 1962-63; convicted of operating a burglary ring. Then there was Officer Buster Snyder, such a piece of work you can find him on Google.
Fertile ground for radicals mixing anti war and civil rights sentiments into vehicles for personal gain.

Imagine that. Thanks for the history lesson!
