CTU President Karen Lewis laughs about lying to parents, turning students into ‘hostages’

NEW YORK – Why is our government education system so dysfunctional? Perhaps because parents often don’t get the truth and administrators and teachers are constantly fighting each other.

That much can be discerned from the words of Karen Lewis, president of the radical Chicago Teachers Union.

Lewis appeared before the New York Collective of Radical Educators (an appropriate audience, to be sure) March 16 to give the keynote address at the group’s annual conference.

Lewis reminisced about her teaching days, when she would lie to parents when it came time to discuss their child’s performance. She then said – because of her lies – the student became her “hostage” who would do what she wanted.

The YouTube video here and below:

That said, need I make any further comments?  Because, after all, I reference my links to Karen Lewis here.

Quite.  I suspected not.

Michigan becomes a “right to work” state, Unions become violent

Michigan has, historically, been a very heavily unionized state because — naturally — of the Big Three automakers’ presence in Detroit.

On Tuesday, Michigan became the 24th state to declare itself a “right to work” locale.  Right to work means: you don’t have to join a union to get a job.

Oddly enough, Michigan simultaneously possesses the highest unionization and unemployment rates in the entire Midwest.  I think even the worst of my trolls can grok that math.

Demorats in Illinois have already promised: “there will be blood.”

[Demorat Doug Geiss mentions the “battle of the overpass.”  You can see that reference here.]

Let’s also view how lovingly and responsibly Leftist and Progressive union people respond to a vote that doesn’t quite go their way:

Steven Crowder set up a tent.  He merely asked questions.  His tent was torn down and he was punched.  Thugs.  Union thugs.  One very interesting comment on the video below:

They complain about a Republican controlled legislature and Governor passing legislation that they are vehemently opposed to but don’t have the votes to stop it! These THUG, MORON, HATER, HYPOCRITES never once voiced concern when the LIBERALS in DC, RAMMED, illegally, Obama care down our throats with ZERO Conservative votes!

LIBERALS = HATE, LIES, and HYPOCRISY to the 100th degree!

Call me wacky, but there seems to be very little understanding and acceptance with the Demorat union people involved here.  And correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t Demorats and Leftists and Progressives portray themselves as “sensitive” and “non-violent” and “accepting of all viewpoints” — ?

I seem to find myself confused.  Do I detect just a hint of hypocrisy involved?

Let’s see: the governor of Michigan, Rick Snyder, won the election.  Their legislature won their multiple elections.  Isn’t that exactly how Barack Hussein Obama crowed upon his first election?

The LA Times writes:

Controversial “right-to-work” legislation covering public-sector employees passed the Michigan House of Representatives on Tuesday, bringing it one step closer to being signed into law.

The House passed the bill, 58 to 51, as union opponents of the measure booed inside the Capitol and an estimated 12,000 people rallied outside. The state’s Senate approved the bill last week.

The House is now scheduled to vote on a right-to-work bill for private-sector employees, which would cover Michigan’s auto industry. If that measure passes, Michigan would become the 24th right-to-work state, meaning unions cannot require members to pay dues as a condition of employment.

Mr Obama is — shock of shocks — against this development.

Imagine that.

Chicago teachers strike: want a 16% wage increase

[CTU President Karen Lewis makes a poor argument that Chicago teachers are starving.]

I create this post with my caveat:

I am a member of an association that has its roots in unions.  Mine has been a “closed shop” for a number of years, which means that I have no voice in where my dues go, nor do I have an ability to stop my dues.  With one exception: I can shuttle my dues over to our law enforcement chaplaincy, which I have done.  When I was in Homicide, I saw the Good Works that our LE chaplains did on a daily basis.

That said, I first made $5.79 an hour whilst a Fornicalia deputy sheriff in a coastal county in 1978.  And that coastal county had (and still has) one of the highest costs in the state for housing.  That wage also included my premium hourly 25-cent “shift differential” for working graveyards.

I never entered law enforcement to cut the proverbial fat hog.  I lived month-to-month for, literally, two decades at work.  Whatever wage or benefit issues were acquired due to negotiations were such that both sides of the table agreed to it.

In the very best of years, I perhaps acquired a 3% to 5% increase — in the 90s.

In Chicago, however, the city teachers have clearly gone “off the rails.”

Apparently the teachers, identical to Mr Obama, are “tone deaf” in re the tenor of the times.

Chicago: the city where Rahm Emanuel is Mayor.  The city that spawned Barack Hussein Obama as a community organizer.  The city that embraces William Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, Reverend Michael Pfleger.

The city that has a higher murder rate than New York.  The city that has Draconian gun laws.

Chicago: the city where its teachers want a 16% increase in wages.  In 2012!  A raise that the teachers turned down.  City of Chicago teachers already have the highest average salary in the entire nation.  Even more than Fornicalia.  That in itself is amazing.

Chicago teachers average $76,000 per year prior to the addition of benefits.

For — dare I portray the obvious here — three months OFF per year.

Frankly, I don’t think even the CEO of Exxon-Mobil acquired a 16% raise this year.

9/11 has been over-done.  I’ll let others make that post today.
