We’ve heard and seen the continuing advocacy by Leftists of confrontation, death threats and violence against the Trump administration and members of various staffs. We’ve heard Leftists advocate for rape, death, throat-slitting, plunging knives into sternums of ICE officers, placing Barron Trump into a cage with pedophiles, the DHS secretary stripped naked and whipped, pilloried in Lafayette Square naked and whipped by passersby, finding the children of Republican children and killing them — well, you get the picture.

Thought that was the ultimate in violent advocacy by the LDAMM? Think again:

Steyer: Maybe We Can Have a ‘Nuclear War’ to Provide a ‘Real Course Correction’ to Trump

Left-wing billionaire Tom Steyer said perhaps there could be a “nuclear war” that would provide a “real course correction” to Donald Trump’s presidency during an interview published by Rolling Stone.

Steyer, who launched a national impeachment campaign against President Donald Trump last year, spoke with the liberal magazine about his efforts, which have been opposed by leading Democrats like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.).

A real nuclear war? A “nuclear war” of violence?

Interviewer Tim Dickinson pointed out Pelosi’s strategy of opposing impeachment of President George W. Bush, to take the issue off the table in 2006. Democrats took back both chambers of Congress in an electoral rout that year.

Then the “money shot” paragraph.

“I remember 2006,” Steyer said. “What happened is that George W. Bush, he put us in two disastrous wars and we were headed toward the biggest financial disaster since the Great Depression. So if the answer is that we need those three things to happen for a course correction, I’d prefer to move a little quicker. How about that? But I take your point. Maybe we can have, like, a nuclear war and then we get a real course correction.”

Yeah, I’d say a nuclear war would be something of a “course correction.”

This is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg regarding Leftist violence.

White House Proposes Merging Labor, Education Departments in Government Overhaul

 (RNN) – The White House has proposed merging the Department of Labor and the Department of Education on Thursday as part of the overhaul of the federal government.

Mick Mulvaney, the Office of Management and Budget chief, unveiled a plan during what he called a “drain the swamp” cabinet meeting, media reported.

The proposal would allow the administration to focus its efforts on student vocational training under one department, according to The Washington Post.

Mulvaney said at the meeting he wants to reduce about 45 job training programs down to 15.

The overhaul proposal results from an order President Donald Trump signed in March last year, which called for a review of the federal government in order to find redundancies and streamline agency operations.  

DC dentists, get ready. You’re about to be flooded with appointments.

Congress would need to approve any such overhaul of federal agencies.

The Department of Education was created by President Jimmy Carter in 1980, and has since been a subject of ire among conservatives.

The White House proposal to merge the departments is expected to occur as part of a larger vision to overhaul the federal government, including shrinking some agencies and altering the missions of others.

It’s part of a directive by Office of Management and Budget head Mick Mulvaney, urging leaders of federal agencies to find ways to streamline their efforts.

Again I say: this is precisely why I acquiesced and voted for Donald Trump. He’s the proverbial bull in the china shop.

Some days I don’t like that.

Most days I do.

That works for me.

Rip, tear. Repeat if necessary.

Oh yeah. It’s necessary.

Five dead at Capital Gazette newspaper shooting

And because law enforcement is being cagey again with the information, I am wondering. But first, from the CapitalGazette.com itself:

Five dead, others ‘gravely injured’ in shooting at Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis

t least five people were killed and several others were “gravely injured” in a shooting Thursday afternoon at the Capital Gazette in Anne Arundel County, authorities said.

A shooter is in custody, police said. Police would not name the suspect or say what type of weapon was used.

Anne Arundel County Police initially confirmed about 3:15 p.m. that they were responding to an “active shooter” at 888 Bestgate Road, where the newspaper’s offices are located. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded to the scene.

The Capital Gazette is owned by The Baltimore Sun.

The Baltimore Sun, by the way, leans quite Left. Listening to the radio I discovered that the Capital Gazette, however, does not — and in fact has been supportive of President Donald Trump.

The suspect has been described as a white male, in his 30s, with long, stringy hair and having no identification on his person.

My first thought: domestic terrorism motivated by Leftist political bias. That would be in keeping with recent events regarding death threats, confrontations and advocacy of violence against Trump supporters. Does that also include, now, newspapers?

Police response was astounding: within 60 seconds. AND: there is much more going on here than the police are revealing. The suspect apparently had some sort of animus against the newspaper — and had somehow damaged his fingertips in an attempt to avoid identification. It gets more odd.

ACLU considering kicking the First Amendment to the curb?

This used to be the stance of the ACLU. Have they abandoned the First Amendment?

If so, then who supports free speech?

Leftists? Demorats? The American Media Maggots? College campuses? The Southern Poverty Law Center? The US Communist Party?

Leaked Internal Memo Reveals the ACLU Is Wavering on Free Speech

“Our defense of speech may have a greater or lesser harmful impact on the equality and justice work to which we are also committed.”

The American Civil Liberties Union will weigh its interest in protecting the First Amendment against its other commitments to social justice, racial equality, and women’s rights, given the possibility that offensive speech might undermine ACLU goals.

“Our defense of speech may have a greater or lesser harmful impact on the equality and justice work to which we are also committed,” wrote ACLU staffers in a confidential memoobtained by former board member Wendy Kaminer.

Translated: the First Amendment is a flexible, fungible and liquid document which may be applied when it happens not to conflict with any host of Social Justice Warrior goals and issues.

Soave really nails it next.

It’s hard to see this as anything other than a cowardly retreat from a full-throated defense of the First Amendment. Moving forward, when deciding whether to take a free speech case, the organization will consider “factors such as the (present and historical) context of the proposed speech; the potential effect on marginalized communities; the extent to which the speech may assist in advancing the goals of white supremacists or others whose views are contrary to our values; and the structural and power inequalities in the community in which the speech will occur.”

Those who operate between the margins of common sense know that it is the Second Amendment which has historically supported the First Amendment. That kind of support is apparently not in the future of the ACLU.

The memo also makes clear that the ACLU has zero interest in defending First Amendment rights in conjunction with Second Amendment rights. If controversial speakers intend to carry weapons, the ACLU “will generally not represent them.”

The memo’s authors assert that this does not amount to a formal change in policy, and is merely intended as guidelines that will assist ACLU affiliates in deciding which cases to take.

Right. I’m going to use a phrase with which the ACLU is well-acquainted: “chilling effect.” And I suspect it’s their point precisely. The First or Second Amendment aren’t absolutes. There are no more absolutes. There are merely unending shades of gray.

It seems fairly clear to me what’s happening here. Leadership would probably like the ACLU to remain a pro-First Amendment organization, but they would also like to remain in good standing with their progressive allies. Unfortunately, young progressives are increasingly hostile to free speech, which they view as synonymous with racist hate speech. Speech that impugns marginalized persons is not speech at all, in their view, but violence. This is why a student Black Lives Matter group shut down an ACLU event at the College of William & Mary last year, chanting “liberalism is white supremacy” and “the revolution will not uphold the Constitution.” Campus activism is illiberal, and liberal free speech norms conflict with the broad protection of emotional comfort that the young, modern left demands.

Again, what happens when true liberals die and Progressives take hold of every aspect of the Demorat Party? What happens when everything in life — as Progressives demand now and Demorats are clearly embracing — is nothing but a palette of gray, with nothing immured in any absolute whatsoever?

Even massive Leftist Nat Hentoff had questions about the ACLU before he passed away in 2017.

When you’re willing to quantify, parse, minimize and in some instances demean and work against freedom and liberty, what happens to this country? By dint of the Logical Extension, what happens to the rest of the world?

Perhaps the ACLU needs to be reminded of its name and the incredible importance of its letter “L”: LIBERTIES.
